Good Spirit Support Action Centre GOSSACE is a legally registered charitable non profit/non government organization registered under the Uganda Non Governmental registration statute 1989, Reg No. S5914/5489

the idea of GOSSACE formation came as a result of members who where clients of Nsambya Home Care Aids Clinic after realizing a pressing need to support one another (affected and infected with HIV/AIDS) cope with the threatening HIV/AIDS pandemic

GOSSACE therefore started as a support group that was first registered as a community based organization to serve in the districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and others that could be reached, had members attending to the Home care stated above.

The group was first known as Good Shepherd Support Action Centre since 2000 until 2003 when the founder members were advised to register it with the Ngo Board as a non governmental organization thus changing its name to the present Good Spirit Support Action Centre.

BACK GROUND

Uganda is one country that was hit hard by HIV in the early 1980’s accounting to the cause of poverty and orphans in big number.

Today over two million children are orphaned by AIDS, in this case relatives and friends play an important role to give psycho social support to these orphans but are over whelmed by the increasing number. This put some children in a position of managing themselves; they must look for food and money to survive thus this is a problem that forces many of these children to drop out of school. The reality is that many of these children face problems like prostitution, poverty, violence, child labor and many other insults that make them even more vulnerable to getting HIV and STDs. Realizing the need to address these problems and educating the community, this backed the formation and establishment of GOSSACE.
